Adults

Adults come to therapy for a variety of reasons often stemming from their relationship with self.  Developing a nurturing and accepting relationship to oneself is an underling goal of therapy. Adults are most able to grasp this concept and learn to engage with the several parts that are active within oneself including the inner child, the inner teen and usually a critical or impatient adult self.   My goal is to help the adult client to heal the inner child and teen parts and to learn ways of developing a healthier, more confident and compassionate adult self. With adults talk is the basis of therapy, with an exploration of early family relationships and experiences, and how these experiences influenced present thoughts, beliefs and behaviors.  Insights made in therapy are then practiced in life situations until old beliefs can be let go of for new and healthier ones, such as feeling worthy and deserving of love. Establishing healthy boundaries with others may have been lacking and can be learned.  In addition to talk therapy I support the process of gaining insight that leads to positive change through mindfulness practices, yoga postures, affirmations, gratitude and expressive arts/non-verbal modes of self expression.
